Larry Broomberg

     Larry Broomberg was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. His background includes Architecture, Industrial and Graphic Design, and he was educated in both South Africa and the USA, where he attended college in Michigan. He established Larry Broomberg Design in South Africa in 1972, and specialized in retail development from the onset.

     In 1987, Larry and his family moved the company to Grand Rapids, Michigan where they still live today. He opened a new partnership in design which continued to specialize in the retail market. During that time, he undertook contracts for many national multi-store groups such as AT&T, Family Book Stores, Coffee Beanery, as well as many "Mom and Pop" stores in local markets. These included local catalog showrooms and supermarkets. A large architectural group bought out the partnership in 1991, and Larry worked with them as the Executive Vice President until 1998 when he reopened Larry Broomberg Design.

     In early 2000, Larry was invited to run design workshops and critique sessions at the CCSA National Convention, which he did for two years and subsequently, undertook many design commissions and private critiques for studios for both members and non-members of CCSA. He currently runs studio design workshops in Canada for the Ceramic Industry there, and Mayco Pottery and Boot Camp Sessions here in the USA. Last year he was invited to present his workshop and the Pottery Camp in London, UK. He continues to design new studios nationally and internationally, and works with Mayco on ideas to increase public awareness of the Contemporary Ceramic Studio Industry.
